A leader in dry granulation: Why fertilizer granules compaction technology takes center stage

Dry granulation is a process that shapes powdered materials using mechanical force, without the addition of water or the application of heat. Among the various dry granulation methods, fertilizer granules compaction technology is the most widely applied and technologically mature. Why compaction technology? While the dry granulation family includes other methods such as tableting and roller pressing, extrusion granulation is the only one that has truly established a firm foothold in the fertilizer industry. Fertilizer materials are characterized by complex compositions, high corrosivity, and significant fluctuations in moisture content; extrusion technology stands out due to its broad adaptability. It can directly process urea, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, potassium chloride, and various compound fertilizer formulations without the need for binders or pre-drying treatments. Technical Variants Extrusion technology primarily branches into two types. Double roller press granulators use two counter-rotating rollers to press powder into pockets on the roller surfaces, producing flattened spherical granules—a method well-suited for high-concentration compound fertilizers. Flat die pelleting machines use pressure rollers to compress material against a flat die, extruding cylindrical granules through the die holes; this method is better suited for high-fiber materials such as organic fertilizers and organic-inorganic compound fertilizers. Process Value Compared to traditional wet granulation, extrusion technology eliminates the energy-intensive drying and cooling stages, shortening the production process by nearly half and reducing overall energy consumption by 30%–50%. The production process generates no wastewater or exhaust gas emissions and allows for flexible formulation switching, making it particularly ideal for producing a wide variety of products in small to medium batches. From NPK compound fertilizers to organic-inorganic compound fertilizers, from potassium chloride to potassium sulfate, and from slow-release fertilizers to blended fertilizers, extrusion technology covers virtually all fertilizer categories requiring dry granulation. It is the preferred choice for small-to-medium-sized fertilizer plants and the specialty fertilizer sector.
